News – More winter here. We had about six inches of freezing rain, sleet, and snow on Monday. Yes I will be so glad when it stays spring. The good news is I know it’s coming, I just wish that it would hurry up and get here.
Tutor Business 101 Part 4
Last time we talked some about setting up a Facebook page. Today we want to expand on that a bit. How can you use your Facebook page to get some business, here are five tips to get you started.
- 1. Find a successful tutor in your area and like their page. This will allow you to do a couple of things, find out how often they post, when they post, and what they post. I suggest using a website with your facebook (and we’ll talk some about setting up a website for yourself next week) but you can get started by just using facebook. Here’s a nice Facebook page to check out – https://www.facebook.com/TutoringZone
- 2. Log into your biz page, now find local businesses to friend and follow. I like to start with businesses that are related to teaching or tutoring and then I expand from there. Next make sure and friend all of the school districts, schools, and teachers (if you know them).
- 3. Make it your goal to post something at least every other day. You want to make a list of topics you want to cover, you don’t want to advertise the fact you own a tutor business, once every week or two is plenty. Here are some example posts – we’ll pretend like I’m tutoring High School Math.
M Geometry Tips
W- Using a calculator
F- Formulas
Sa- Having fun with math
M- Algebra Tips
W- Meet a tutor (great if you have more than one tutor)
F- Pictures
Sa Discounts for you. - 4. Make sure to post on FB any school news for especially schools you are tutoring at, but also the district of schools you serve. This could be snow days, ball games, other activities, date the school will be off, important test dates that are coming up, when report cards come out. You want to be the place where a parent would come and look to see what was happening at their child’s school.
Does this take time and it is a lot of work. The answer to both is yes, but as you provide good information, the number of likes you have will grow. Get in a routine of checking facebook and doing your post (I like doing it in the mornings, but you can do it whenever it is convenient for you.

The real story of Facebook is just that we’ve worked so hard for all this time. I mean, the real story is actually probably pretty boring, right? I mean, we just sat at our computers for six years and coded.
