Happy Halloween. Hope you are having a wonderful week. It’s summertime here… again. Today we’re supposed to have thunderstorms and bad weather, not good for the trick or treaters.
I spoke with a gentleman earlier this week who bought our tutor course and he was asking about some time management things. I know we’ve talked about it previously both in our newsletters and our blog but I think it needs to be addressed again, this time in dept.
Remember if you have any topics you would like for us to cover, please let us know. You can either email us (you can reply to this message if you got it in your inbox) or you can leave a comment in the box below (if you’re on our blog).
One other note about time management – don’t forget this weekend you’ll want to make sure to fall back.
Time Management – Tutor time
If you’re going to start a tutor business, the most important thing you’ll do with your time is tutor someone. It is the way you make your money. The man I spoke with had several things that he did with his time. He worked a 9 to 5 job, two nights a week he volunteered at school and on Friday evenings he had another part time job.
So he had Tuesday / Thursday nights free from 6pm till 10 pm. I have had the best luck tutoring from 4pm till 9 pm. He could safely tutor from 6 to 9.
Friday nights for him were booked. Monday and Weds. Nights he had free from 8 till 10 pm.
I suggested he tutor from 6 to 9 – that’s 3 – two night a week tutor spots. If he charges $20 / hour then that’s $120 / week. I spoke to him about ditching the Friday night job, but he makes $200 / for the night.
Before you go on reading, I want you to think about it. What are some more ways he could make money.
++++
Saturday sessions – I would use these for additional tutor sessions or maybe someone just wants to be tutored one day a week.
Homework help – being available for individual questions about whatever subject you’re tutoring. He could be available 8-10 M / W and 9-10 T / Thursday.
I would suggest when you’re beginning your tutor business you at least have 6 hours when you can tutor students ( or 3 / 2 hour sessions).
If you’re having trouble finding time to tutor, we would love to help. You can send us a note.
