Networking and your Tutor Business
Growing your business by yourself is not very fun. Also doing it by yourself is not as profitable as doing it with friends. That may seem to be a bit far fetched but it’s really very true. So what are some ways you can network in your tutor business. When you think about networking the best relationship is one that is a win / win for both parties. If it is lopsided then someone is going to be disappointed and when that happens it doesn’t work as well. While the hardest part may be getting the networking started, it is important to remember to build and grow your relationships.
We’ve talked about each of these before in our blog posts, including tips for getting them but we’ll go over them again here.
Network with Teachers and Schools
One of the most profitable relationships you can have. The goal of your tutor business is to find students how need your help – and then of course you help them. Teachers know students that need your help.
What they can give to you – students, referrals, references.
What you can give to them – Limited only by your imagination. Here are some things that have worked in the past. Volunteer in their classroom. Give free lessons on how to take tests / how to study, etc.
Network with Tutors
Find a tutor in your town who tutors something you don’t. It works best if (for example) you tutor high school and they tutor grade school. They would be able to send you high school students that need to be tutored and you could send them leads from your current clients / plus any elementary school leads you get. Another example would be if you both tutor high school but different subjects.
Network with “Compatible” businesses and community resources –
Tons of different places. Churches, scout groups, civic organizations. Am awesome way to do this is to give them something of value – like a free class. Sell girl scout cookies for them. Again work on being a part of the community. Sometimes that can be hard, but again it is well worth it in the long run.
Enjoy your weekend.
