I don’t know about you but I need some spring. The calendar says spring, this week we had the equinox that happened, but the forecast today doesn’t get above 30 and for the next seven days it doesn’t get above 50. We did have one good day last weekend, it was 70, of course the next day it was 30. What will probably happen is when it warms up we’ll be in the 90’s.
Blogging and why you want to consistently post to your blog  –
Last time we talked about why building a blog is important and some ways you can build it. A reminder, the reason we build a blog is to get more tutor students. I should really say, it makes it easier to get more students. The good / bad thing about a tutor students is when you get a client you usually keep them for awhile (usually a school year or two), but then they move on and you can’t help them anymore. So you should always be looking for ways to grow your business and keep a steady influx of new students. Today is to help you realize, why you should consistently post to your blog.
- You’re building an audience – one of our goals in doing this is to help put you and your business at the front of the minds of potential clients and their friends. So when two friends are out shopping and they start talking about school, one says to the other “Susie is having trouble in Math,†and she answers, “You should check out Tim’s blog, he has some awesome Math tips and I think he could help Susie get an A.†We’ll talk some more about what you should be posting later (probably on Tuesday of next week).
- You’re showing people you care about your community / schools – some of the things you’ll be posting a related to schools you serve in your area. Giving the latest scores of sporting events (which you’re attending, right) and even pictures of the events.
- You’re showing prospective clients how smart you are – by posting things that will help them learn the subject you’re tutoring.
- Doing this will help improve your SEO rank – one of the ways Google ranks your website is by looking at the number of pages for your website. The more pages of content the better you site will rank (usually). It also helps for local keywords like “Lexington Math Tutor†if you talk about things that are happening in Lexington.
Hopefully that gives you a bit of motivation to start blogging. If you’re looking for some ideas on what to blog about, here are some ideas: How I got started as a Math tutor, what subjects you tutor, things you like about the local schools, how much you charge, go in depth about the different programs you offer, tell a success story of one of your students.
