Summer Tutoring Programs, how to switch from students home to your home for tutoring

I love questions. Got this question yesterday –

I have been tutoring the same students for two school years. I would like to expand my student base.  I always have the same problem. When it gets to the end of the school year, they stop tutoring for the whole summer. However, the student is behind, particularly in writing and spelling/grammar.

I also wanted to know if there are tutors that work out of their home instead of going to the students home. I have been going to the students home because I got this student from any agency and that was the arrangement. However, I find that the student has more distractions at home then if he/she went to my location or another location. It seems that most parents want the tutor to come to them. With gas being what it is and the fact that you lose a lot of time traveling to students homes how can we get the parents to come to us? I also have the potential of doing online tutoring. Please give me some feedback on these issues.

Here’s our answer –

Did you tell the students parents they needed some extra help? If not you should. We had a series of articles about tutoring in the summer. You can find them at the following url –

If you click on the bottom link that leads you to the next article – we did 3 or 4 additional articles about Summer tutoring – with some other stuff thrown in the mix.

I’m not sure what you’re charging for your services. You should make sure to factor in your time / expenses for tutoring at the students home. You can charge a couple of different prices – one at your home, one at the students home. One of your big selling points for tutoring at your home can be just what you mentioned… less distractions and more focused learning.

Hope that helps a bit.

Also got a kind note about one of our freebies in our tutor program – if you actually follow the lessons and the email guide.
This sounds great to me. The e-mails are very useful – thank you! I am in the military, so I’m not always able to devote my full time to launching my tutoring business. All that aside, I have already prepared many documents and I’ve done a lot of research.  I’m looking forward to receiving your pdf instructions and building a Website.

Thank you very much,
