The iPad is awesome. I’ve had one since it came out. There are a ton of different things you can do with it. Over the next few days we’ll be talking about some great apps and some things you may not know about. One thing I like about the iPad is it makes learning fun.
When learning is fun students tend to learn more.
The first thing I would like you to do is check out this video – It’s about five minutes long.

Notes from the video –
Chicago Public Schools are using the IPad in some of their classrooms.
Gains of 50% in some areas.
Remember – Elements App. (Science)
I have heard some people talking about how the IPad may do away with some of the needs for tutoring. I don’t see this as the case. Tutors can use the IPad to enhance their tutoring.
After all our goal should be to teach our students to succeed using every tool we can find. This is sort of like the argument I heard about how the internet would make tutoring obsolete. Did it? No.
One of the best things a tutor can do is help them figure out exactly what there learning style is. Once you figure out the learning style… or I should say the learning style that helps them most, you will be well on your way to making them a successful student.
How can you use the IPad to help you?
Here is just one suggestion. Find out some aspect of the subject the student is struggling with. Let’s say they are having a hard time with multiplication of two numbers. Get an app that is related to the subject. In this case math. If you tutor Math you’ll want to check all of the apps out. You don’t have to get them all at once but a few every month is good. You’ll find one that you click with and like. You let the student use the app, focusing on their problem areas and watch them as they do their work. You’ll offer them suggestions and assistance and then let them do more problems.
Over the next few days we’ll highlight apps for the different subjects.
Enjoy your day.
