This week on the blog we’re going to talk about time management.
During one part of my business career I worked full time as a nurse, attended college to get by Bachelor’s degree and ran my business. Many of you are probably in the same situation. This week we’ll give you some tips on getting more done in less time.
I’ve thought many times about how I survived during that time in my life and I can attribute it to a few factors – we’ll be talking about them in depth this week.
1. Plan and a Schedule – having a plan and scheduling things. We’ll talk about some tricks to do to help the time you have stretch a bit farther.
2. Distractions – how to get rid of them and some distractions you may not be aware of.
3. 20 minutes at a time – it goes by a variety of names but we’ll explain how to focus your time and be more productive.
4. Recharging your batteries – it is true all work and no play makes Jack not only dull but less productive.
5. Multi-tasking – Things you can multitask and other things you shouldn’t even think about it.
6. Encouraging yourself.
Plan and a Schedule
Before you begin to make a plan and schedule you’ll want to do a self inventory. You’ll want to think about what you’re good at… those things you can do with little or no effort. You’ll also want to think about things you’re not good at, Â but need to do for your business.
Are you a morning person, or do you do your best work at night? These are also some things you’ll want to think about.
When scheduling things you’ll also want to think about things you must do, things you need to do and things you want to do. Let’s pretend for a moment.
I need to:
Work from 7:30 – 4:00
I tutor from 5:00 – 7:00
I get up at 6 and go to bed at 11.
I Need to create a website for my business
I want to spend more time with my daughter
I work really well in the morning. Normally I get up at 6 and it takes me till 7 to get everyone ready to go to school.
You also want to work on growing your business – at least for an hour a day or 7 hours a week (even if your tutor schedule is full).
Here’s a revised plan.
Get up at 5. Work from 5 to 6 every day to learn how to and build a website.
Spend time with my daughter from 7-8 doing homework.
9-10 work on planning ways to grow my business. If it involves contacting people then I will contact them from 4 – 5.
Will it be easy? No of course not. Can you do it? Yes you can!
Tomorrow on the blog we’ll talk about getting rid of distractions.
This week’s quick tip –
If you talk to one person every day about your business, at the end of the year you would have talked to 365 people. If only 5 percent of those became tutor clients you would have 18 new clients.
