Sidenote:
I love to use real life events that kids can relate to when we teach them. One thing I know I’ll be using this fall is about the Olympics. Depending on the age of your students you may be able to incorporate it into a game in which they earn “medals” as they progress in their tutoring.
The athletes are pretty great but they didn’t get that way by sitting on the couch. It has taken them months and sometimes years to get to the level they are at now. So when you want to do well in Math (or Science etc), you will need to practice every day.
Today we want to talk about creating a calendar for your business this year. We’ll be assuming you tutor in some school related capacity – but no matter what you tutor you should be able to get a few ideas from this.
You can get free year long “year planners” here – http://www.year-planner-calendar.wanadoo.co.uk/2012-year-planner-wall-diary-calendar-public-holiday-chart-free.htm They’re free to download are pretty easy to use.
Here are some dates you’ll want to make sure you include on the calendar.
Start of school
End of school
School holidays
Report cards – when students will receive them. If you’re working with schools that use different periods (like 6 and 9 week) you’ll want to make sure to include both.
Semester Tests
ACT / SAT times the test will be given in your area.
Midterm reports
Many of these dates you’ll want to get from a teacher if at all possible. We’ve talked a few different times about how to contact teachres so we won’t go into it. On Thursday we’ll talk about some different advertising you can use for each of those dates.
