We continue our 100 ways to get students, today we’re going to talk about creating a presentation, which will be useful (and you’ll use it) to get more students. Like most things in your business, you’ll create it once (the hard part) and then you’ll use it for a variety of things. Creating it the best you can (the first time) and you won’t have to do it again.

- Creating a Presentation
The Outline –
You’ll want your presentation to be useful and to teach something that students your tutoring needs to know. Let’s pretend that you tutor high school math and you want to create a presentation that highlights your ACT / SAT math tutoring. One of the biggest questions that you get are about what types of math questions will be on the test. You decide to create a presentation that highlights the types of questions that might appear.
You want the presentation to last 10 or 15 minutes max.
Introduction – just explain what you’ll be talking about during your presentation.
The main content – list the five most common types of math problems. Explain each of them in depth. Explain how to do them and then show an example of how you’re doing them.
More information – when you’re finished, wrapping up, show the people that are watching the presentation where they can find more information. You’ve given them five problems; give them the opportunity to find the next five. This could be in several different forms, the best would be if you had a website and offered the next five as a bonus for signing up for your newsletter. You could also provide this to them if they become a friend on your Facebook fan page. You could also just create a couple of pages that you hand out.
The Tools –
I like using power point to create my presentation. You can also use Google Docs (which is Free). https://docs.google.com
There will be two ways you will show off the presentation – one will be live, the other will be recorded. To record your presentation you’ll need screenshare software.
There are a ton of alternatives for this type of software, may you can buy, but you can also use Google Hangouts and save the hangout on Youtube.
I use Camtasia – http://amzn.to/1G2Pyjb
Currently it’s out of stock. It’s not cheap, but it has been (for me) we’ll worth the investment.
Creating the presentation –
Take your outline and type it into power point. There are many free templates you can use to help make your presentation look more professional.
Include pictures and graphics.
When you’re finished make sure that you read over it and get someone else to read over it. Practice it a few times and then record it.
Here is a video that talks about how to setup Google Hangouts – http://www.cleverapple.com/blog/setting-up-google-hangouts-video/
