Hopefully you are enjoying the first full week of the New Year. Remember that if you miss on some of your goals or resolutions, it doesn’t mean you have to ditch them. Just start over again. We’ve done pretty well so far with our goals. Like we mentioned earlier make sure you write them down and review them every day, along with the reward you get for accomplishing your goals.
In Case you missed it –
Parts one and two of our Start an Online Tutor business series can be found at the links below.
Part 6 –
Today we’re going to talk about how to setup your wordpress account for your tutor business. You can check out all of our previous articles by using the urls above.
So we’ve purchased our domain name and hosting. We’ve installed wordpress on our site. Before we get into changing what our site looks like we want to figure out exactly what we want our site to do. For now we’ll say we want 5 or 6 pages.
Introduction – a page that introduces us and the content of our site.
About Us – what we do, how long we’ve been in business, why we’re qualified to do what we say we can do, why we started our business etc.
Success Stories – people we’ve already helped in our business.
Contact Us – the more ways you can list here the better. At least you should have a phone number and an email address.
Blog – a place where we post new content at least a few times a week.
Services – a list of what we do, schedules, how much, how to get started.
Now you’ll want to work on a rough draft for each of those pages.
Check out some of your competition and see how they lay out their content, what they’ve written.
Tomorrow we should have a video explaining what to do next (we’ll be setting up the look of your site).
Links you can use – If you like to teach with the iPad – this app is pretty cool. It allows students to make simple whiteboard videos. A complete review is here –
A Business Tip –  if you pay estimated Federal or State income taxes remember that January 15th is when you send your next (and final) payment for the 2012 tax year. I’ve also heard the IRS may be a little late in accepting returns this year, more details can be found here (you won’t be able to file till January 30th and possibly later) – http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Plans-Jan.-30-Tax-Season-Opening-For-1040-Filers If you have questions about this you should speak to your accountant.
