Hope you are having a wonderful day. This week it has stormed here almost every day… I think I made need to get me a boat. If you teach, hopefully your school year is winding down and you’re in the home stretch.  Today we talk about interviewing for a client and building a simple wordpress site. We usually try to keep the newsletter to around 900 words or so, and we got a bit long winded, so next time we’ll resume our Tutor Tips on things to teach in the summer.

Reminder

If you order our tutor program before June 15th we’ll include a guide we should have finished by August at no additional charge. This is limited to 8 folks. This guide will teach you (step by step) how to build an online segment to your tutoring business. We are excited about this because you will be able to tutor not only folks in your town, but from around the country and the world.

If you’ve already ordered, you’ll get this at no additional charge. Remember any new updates or things we add to the program, folks that have already ordered will get them free. We haven’t updated the site yet with this news, we wanted to give you the chance first. We will be adding it to the site next Thursday.

You can order our guide at the following url –

—>> Advice – Preparing for the interview – this is excerpted from our tutor guide.

Begin Excerpt – note the videos and pages mentioned are available in the tutor business guide.

Final preparations for the interview – the old cliché’ is still true: You never have but one chance to make a first impression.” You’ll want to make that first impression an excellent one.

Remember – we are here to help you. If you get stuck please don’t hesitate to send us a note (info@cleverapple.com) and we’ll be more than happy to help you.

Review videos – 4,5,6
Review pages  – 22-34 in the guide

VERY IMPORTANT – if during the interview you discover that you don’t like the parent or the child for whatever reason… you do not have to take the student. Your goal in your business is (or should be) to have some extra money and freedom to do the things that you want. If you’re miserable during this process, no amount of money is worth it.  During the interview you may find out that they have unrealistic expectations (they have an F student they want to be an A student in a week), they may be demanding, they may be nitpicky or any number of things. If you have a gut feeling during the interview that things may not go well… go with your gut.

So you’re interviewing them and they’re figuring out if they want you to tutor their child.

The more you interview potential clients, the better you’ll be a finding the perfect fit. If you decide during the interview things won’t work, you can let them know during the interview or you can wait till the end of the interview if you wish. Just be gentle when you do it.

Tomorrow we’ll talk more about the interview itself.

Building a Simple WordPress site – today we’re going to talk about how to build a simple WordPress site, totally free.

Step 1 – Go to this url – http://wordpress.com/
Step 2 – Click the “Get Started Here” Button
Step 3 – You’ve arrived at a page and will need to fill out some information. The most important bit of information is your blog address. You’ll want to include your city and either ‘tutor’ or ‘tutoring’ so I may choose – lexingtonkytutor – or something similar. Put in a username, password and your email address. Make sure you note these. Click the save / next button.
Step 4 – you should get an email – click on the link to confirm it.
Step 5 – as you’re waiting for the email fill out the next page with name and about yourself. In the about yourself portion, tell them about your tutoring business. Include the city you’re in, the students you tutor, grade level and subjects. Something like:

We tutor students in and around Lexington, Kentucky. We specialize in tutoring Math and English for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. Email us or call us (phone number) to learn more about our tutoring services.

You should now be in the dashboard section. They have a really great video that explains exactly how to use the service.

Next issue we’ll talk about things you can post.

The issue after that we’ll have a pdf on how to build a ‘regular’ site.
