Labor Day is this weekend. We hope you enjoy at least one day off. We continue our series on getting more tutor clients.
Starting Out – Best times to push
Most of the schools are back in session now, first tests are probably coming up. I have a client that is a math tutor and she knows the teachers in her district backward and forward. She knows the tests that most of the students have a hard time with, she then basis some of her advertising around that. One of the tests given is for fractions. After the students take this test she targets those students with specific ads like,
Stuck on Fractions – Get a free one hour tutor session this week and get unstuck and make an A on your next test.
Imagine Johnny the student has been complaining about how hard the math test was he just took. She goes to the store to pick up some groceries and on the way out the door she sees this ad Of course she is going to make a note of the phone number.
My client tells me about three quarters of the people who sign up for the first session, end up continuing their tutoring throughout the semester.
The point is:
1.     Know the teachers who teach your subject. I would recommend becoming friends with them. Learn how they teach and when they’ll be giving their tests during the semester.
2.     Ask questions and find out the tests many of the students are having trouble with.
3.     Target your advertising on the trouble tests, and post the ads around the time the students are taking those tests.
A few Tutor Students – Using Facebook
If you don’t have a Facebook page for your tutor business, you should work on creating one. We’ve given you a step by step guide here:

An easy way to find more friends for your page is by inviting them. Log into your facebook business page. You should see a tab to the right, just below the ‘Messages’ area which says invite friends. Invite people on your friends list you know may be interested in what you’re talking about.
Post at least once a week. We’ll use our example we talked about earlier, you teach high school math. Every Tuesday you have a math tip you post to your Facebook friends. You can coordinate it with the list of hard tests coming up. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you gave some good guidance right before a big Math test. Don’t you think they would talk to your friends about it?

I used this tool this week to teach a bit of Math – I enjoy it and I think your students will like it as well.
